Position Summary:  We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Intern to support our finance and accounting team via a paid internship. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting, with a focus on grant revenue tracking, financial reporting, and general ledger support. Rate of pay is based on current level of coursework completed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in recording and reconciling grant revenue and expenditures in the accounting system
  • Support the preparation of financial reports for funders and internal stakeholders
  • Support the creation of grant budgets
  • Help monitor budget-to-actuals for specific grants and programs
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliation
  • Review and organize receipts, invoices, and financial documentation
  • Help ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant agreements
  • Participate in special projects and audits as needed
  • Help review and revise accounting policies and procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP and/or fund accounting is a plus)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Interest in nonprofit work and grant-funded programs
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or experience related to nonprofit or governmental accounting
  • Familiarity with grant compliance requirements (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance)

Additional Information:

  • KSTC is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. The Accounting Intern must be able to work in of the Lexington office during business hours at least three days a week.
