About AdvanceKentucky: AdvanceKentucky began work in 2008 with the goal of promoting equitable and successful access to Advanced Placement coursework for all students across the Commonwealth. Since that time, we have expanded our efforts to support middle school mathematics and K-12 computer science. 

Our mission is to work with local, state, and national partners to dramatically expand student access to and success in rigorous coursework for all students, enabling them to pursue advanced college and career opportunities. 

Position Summary: Lead the effort in developing and executing a strategy to increase statewide student participation and success in advanced science courses.


Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration

  • Work with team members and administrative staff to develop, disseminate, and execute contracts, agreements, and budgets to facilitate effective program execution.
  • Meet with classroom teachers regularly throughout the school year and with school administrators as needed.
  • Plan and organize AdvanceKentucky’s annual professional development events for teachers and students.

Outreach and Recruitment

  • Assist with the annual recruitment of new schools, teachers, and partners to ensure access for all students to advanced coursework across the state.
  • Maintain an effective social media presence to promote awareness and increase engagement with partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members within AdvanceKentucky and KSTC to identify areas of growth and opportunity and pursue avenues of funding and support.
  • On occasion, support development of marketing materials and presentations and the execution of events and/or projects with the goal of increasing AdvanceKentucky’s brand awareness and community engagement. 

AP and pre-AP classroom support

  • Build and maintain a network of science teachers, mentors, and consultants to support student growth and success in advanced coursework.
  • Foster a culture of support and growth among prior and active AdvanceKentucky teachers.
  • Develop and execute professional growth strategies for science teachers supported by AdvanceKentucky.
  • Provide direct support for AP and pre-AP classrooms (grades 6-12) through in-person and virtual instruction, mentoring, and recruitment.

Skills and Experience:

To succeed in this role, the Science Content Manager must demonstrate exceptional skills in designing and leading professional development, mentoring, and fostering a growth mindset within the team. Strong relationship-building and collaboration abilities are essential, along with the capacity to influence, inspire, and creatively partner with others. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with innovative thinking, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a deep understanding of classroom pedagogy. Additionally, the Manager must be adept at building and managing a network of external teacher contractors and educational partners. Established connections within these spaces, particularly across Kentucky, will be a valuable asset. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience
  • Experience with College Board’s Advanced Placement high school coursework 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing large professional networks and coordinating professional development including curriculum setting and/or development
  • Experience with dual credit and/or CTE coursework

KSTC is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky with additional offices located in Louisville. The primary location of this position’s workstation is flexible.  Due to the statewide nature of program, the role will require moderate travel to stakeholder locations, predominately in Kentucky.
