Part-Time Accounting Specialist

The Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) (www.kstc.com), is a statewide independent and innovative 501(c)(3) non-profit leader, that powers Kentucky’s growth by cultivating knowledge, talent and innovation.
KSTC’s Finance & Accounting department oversees all elements of finance for our broad portfolio of programs including accounting, AP & AR, audit, tax and banking/investment and seeks to add a part-time staff to support the growing workload.
Position duties include:
- Bank account reconciliations:
- Monthly reconciliations of cash accounts
- Clearing Positive Pay exceptions
- Researching and correcting variances
- Assisting the Accounts receivable function by:
- Preparing invoices
- Preparing and reviewing monthly aging reports
- Reconciling general ledger receivable accounts to receivable subledgers
- Assist the Accounts Payable functions by:
- Reviewing, compiling and monitoring new and existing contracts
- Monitoring and managing corporate credit cards
- Assist month-end and year-end closing and reporting by:
- Collecting, reviewing and compiling information supporting transactions recorded in general ledger
- Preparing and entering journal entries recording transactions in the general ledger
- Analyzing and reconciling designated general ledger accounts
- Assisting in the preparation and distribution of monthly financial reports and data.
- Assisting in the documentation and compliance requirements for federal and state grants
- General administrative tasks such as document creation, data entry, electronic and paper filing, and scanning
Skills & Experience
- Required: Associate’s degree
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, with additional preference in Accounting or Finance
- Required: Minimum two years of relevant experience
- Required: Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat a plus
- Required: Proficiency in accounting software applications
- Experience with Financial Edge NXT is a strong plus
- Required: Ability to work in the United States
- Preferred: Experience with federal grant financial management and administration
Compensation: $20 to $30 per hour based on education and work experience, & limited benefits package, including retirement benefits.
Hours and Location: This position will average 20 hours per week, though may flex to 30 hours per week during certain period, yet with a flexible schedule. The position will be based in our Lexington headquarters.
